Royal B. Shepard was born June 23, 1855, in St. Lawrence county New York and died on his farm 6 miles south of Lost Spring, Wyoming, Feb. 20, 1919. The immediate cause of death was heart failure. His heart had troubled him for at least two years. On Monday the 17th instant he was seized with a severe spell with his heart from which he did not fully rally. He was urged by his brother and sister to allow them to call a doctor but he thought he would rally in a day or two when he would go to town and call at the doctor's office, but he did not rally sufficiently to do so. Instead he was seized by another and severer heart spell from which after a period of intense suffering he died at 7 p.m. Feb. 20.

Mr. Shepard moved from New York to Lake City, Ia., in 1882 and from there to Pender, Nebr., in 1884 where he farmed for many years and moved in or about Omaha, Nebr., from which place he came to Lost Spring in September 1911, where he lived until his death.

He was of a very quiet temperment, but ever an accommodating neighbor, one to whom it seemed to be a privilege to render his neighbor assistance.

He leaves to mourn his death, one sister and three brothers, his sister, Miss Lucy Shepard being one of our most respected property holders, and his brother John and wife, we are glad to have numbered among us.

Considering the inclement weather a fine audience assembled at the funeral service conducted by Rev. J. R. Barr at the Prairied View Presbyterian church. Beautiful Floral offerings were presented by friends, and of special mention the one presented by the Prairie View Ladies Aid Society. The whole community most generally directly or indirectly extends its sympathy to the bereaved at this time of lonliness.
