Samuel Cantrell

Samuel Edward Cantrell was the victim of a head-on collision here Saturday evening. An honor student at Eastern Wyoming College at Torrington, Sam lived at the family home in Lusk and commuted to school. Recently he passed a preliminary test for the U. S. Border Patrol.

He was born Feb. 27, 1955, at Indianapolis, Ind., the son of Edward Lee and Norma Gleeson Cantrell. The family moved to Lovell and then Rock Springs where he attended grade school and to Cody where he was in junior high and a freshman. He started his sophomore year in Rock Springs before the family moved to Lusk where he graduated from N. C. H. S. in 1973.

Sam was a member of the DeMolay at Cody, and an active member of the National Rifle Association. He had won several trophies at state pistol combat matches at Gillette.

He enjoyed sports of all kind especially hunting and fishing. The May issue of Guns just last week published pictured Sam and his father in an article by Bill Jordon. The picture was taken while Cantrells and Jordon were on a bear hunt. While on the hunt they shot a coyote with a rifle Jordon was featuring in his article. Last summer Sam coached and managed a Little League baseball team. A memorial service was being conducted this Wednesday morning at Peet Chapel. Mark Lohr was officiating. Mrs. Marilyn Cockreham was singing "In The Garden" and "Green Grass of Home." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.
