Mattie Parsons Carley dies
Mrs. Mattie M. Parsons Carley, who was telephone operator in Dalton for 43 years, died the morning of April 28 at Sidney Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Carley, 81, was born at Harrison on February 8, 1895. She graduated from high school in Harrison. After attending the Pharmaceutical School of the Highland Park College, Des Moines, Iowa, for one year, she returned to Nebraska and graduated from the State Normal College in Chadron in 1916. She taught school for four years in the Harrison area. She was married to Clarence J. Carley on August 20, 1920. They lived in Gurley for five years and in Bridgeport for two years before moving to Dalton in 1927.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Gordon F., of Casper, Wyo.; one daughter, Mrs. Susie Mae Ambler of Wheatridge, Colo.; one grandson, Gordon L; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank and John Parsons of Harrison.
Funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Dalton Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Munson officiating. Burial was in the Dalton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian Church or the Dalton Rescue Unit.
