Passing of Frank Deuel

The following article, published in the Lusk Herald, is courtesy of the Wyoming Newspaper Project.

Frank Deuel, an old-time and highly respected citizen of Lusk, passed away at his late residence Monday morning, after a few days' illness, deeply regretted, not only by his relatives and close friends but by the community at large by whom he was known as one of its most public-spirited citizens. Kind and gentle by nature, genial yet unostentatious, and always unobtrusive, Frank Deuel was a model citizen and the kind of a man whose loss to a community might well be termed irreparable.

He was born in Brandon, Wis., and came to Wyoming in 1880 with his brother-in-law, Matt Hargraves, with whom he was associated in the sheep and wool business until about 1899. In 1894 he was married to Miss Isabella L. Riggs and the same year settled in Lusk and took active part in the building up of the town. He lived in Wyoming the balance of his life with the exception of two years when he went home on account of the illness of his father. He was a member of the Lusk Town Council for 12 years and occupied the mayor's chair for three years. He united with the Congregational Church in 1901 since which time he continued to be a faithful and energetic member.

He is survived by his widow, his mother, Mrs. S. J. Deuel, and two sisters, Mrs. Matt Hargraves of Hollywood, Calif., and Mrs. Veder-Johnson of Saginaw, Mich.

Funeral service will be held at the Congregational church tomorrow afternoon, after the arrival of Mrs. Hargraves from California.
