Jewell Shelby Cole

Longtime Lusk cook Jewell Shelby Cole died last Wednesday at Weston County Memorial Hospital in Newcastle. She was 68.

Mrs. Cole came to Niobrara County in 1944 and lived here until last May, when she moved to her daughter's home in Osage.

She had worked at many Lusk restaurants and cafes, including the South Side, Chat & Chew and Fireside Inn.

A native of Buress, Neb., she was the daughter of Rosalavo and Minnie Clark. She grew up in Geneva, Neb., where she received her education.

On June 17, 1926, she married Ed Cole at Geneva, and the couple made their home at Estes Park, Colo., until 1944, when they came to Lusk.

Mrs. Cole is survived by her husband, a resident of Torrington; seven sons, Michael G. of Lusk, Edwin Jr. of Worland, James L. of Torrington, William D. of Dickinson, N.D., Peter S. of Bozeman, John of Osage and Robert R. of Rock Springs; five daughters, Maxine Eutsler of Osage, Lu Ann Giles of Zapp, N.D., Eunice Johnson of Rapid City, Dorothy McCollom of Torrington and Mary Bowman of Lusk; a brother, Robert Clark of Geneva; three sisters, Eunice Nichols of Denver, Cora Cole of Omaha and Merle Studeville of Helena; 46 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

A services was held Saturday at Peet Mortuary, with Rev. Frank Bozart officiating.

Music was by Edna DeCastro, organist, and Joy Kaltenheuser, soloist. Songs included "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee."

Burial was at the Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were George Dixon, Charles Christian, Andy Newcomb, Herb Klindt, Ernie Lemons and Richard Pfister.
