Accident Proves Fatal

The following article, published in the Converse County Herald, is courtesy of the Wyoming Newspaper Project.

Little did we think last week when the news came that Robert Gamble was slightly hurt and summoning his wife to go and nurse him, that the injuries were of such a serious nature. It seems while he was riding the range near Gillette after cattle his horse stepped into a gopher hole and fell and that the pommel of the saddle struck him in the abdomen, near the region of the bladder. He was taken to Gillette for treatment where he remained for three days, but grew worse all the time, when it was decided to take him to the hospital at Grand Island, Nebraska, where all that human skill could devise was resorted to, but in vain, and on Sunday morning Mr. Gamble passed away.

Tuesday the remains were brought to Lusk and the funeral service held in the town hall, the impressive ritual of the W. O. W. lodge being used, and Rev. Mrs. Gray preached the sermon. The hall was beautifully decorated and the floral designs were especially beautiful. The large gathering of friends from far and near testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held.

Mr. Gamble was born in Ontario, Canada, and was 42 years of age at the time of his death. Something over 20 years ago he came to this country and engaged in the cattle and sheep business for large outfits. On March 17, 1890, he was married to Miss Alice Sharp, who with two children, Georgia and Robert, survive him. The sympathy of the people goes out to the wife and children in this sad hour as they have lost a kind husband and an indulgent father.
