William A. Taylor

William A. Taylor died June 18, 2010 at home following a long battle with cancer.

William Alfred “Al” Taylor was born on Nov. 2, 1928 in Lusk, Wyo. the second son of Don C. and Ethel (Thompson) Taylor. He attended school in Lusk and graduated from Lusk High School in 1946.

Following high school he attended Yankton College in Yankton, South Dakota, and after one year, he transferred to the University of Wyoming where he earned a teaching degree. Upon graduation from college, he returned to Lusk where he taught Social Studies, geography and arithmetic. He joined the army at the time of the Korean conflict. He returned to Lusk to teach for two more years before attending the University of Wyoming School of Law. He attained his law degree in 1959 after which he opened a law practice in Lusk. He loved the practice of law and was committed to his clients. He served as County Attorney and City Attorney in conjunction with his private law practice for many years. He was the first director and established the first offices of the Wyoming State Bar in 1976. In 1980, he was appointed to judge to the Eighth Judicial District Court based out of Douglas, Wyo. He served for thirteen years until he was appointed to the Wyoming Supreme Court in 1993. During his tenure on The Supreme Court he served as Chief Justice.

In January of 1958, he married Jane Y. Lyons. He is survived by his wife Jane of 52 years, three daughters Alison Lass, Kari (Andy) Gray, and Lisa (Bob) Lange, nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren (with the ninth on the way), his brother James M. (Tena) Taylor, his sister-in-law Irene Hamm and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Doris Jeanne Taylor, his parents Don C. and Ethel Thompson Taylor and one brother Donald Lee Taylor.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. July 16 at the St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Lusk, Wyoming. Converse Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for William Alfred “Al” Taylor, 81, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Saint Leo’s Catholic Church in Lusk, Wyo. with Doctor Colm P. Woods officiating. Inurnment will be in the Lusk Cemetery.

William A. Taylor died Friday, June 18, 2010 at his home in Green Valley, Arizona following a long battle with cancer.

A memorial to the Niobrara County Library, 425 South Main Street, Lusk, Wyo., 82225 or a charity of the donors would be appreciated by the family.

The Gorman Funeral Homes - Converse Chapel in Douglas, Wyoming is in charge of the arrangements.
