Quenten L. Emery

Quenten L. Emery, 57, a Harrison, NE native, died Thursday, May 7, 1987 at Iowa Medical Center.

He was director of the Polk County, IA Department of Social Services from 1971 until he retired in 1985 and former president of the Iowa Association of Human Service administrators.

He was the nephew of Melvin (Pete) Meier of Lusk.

Survivors include three daughters, Rae A. Hansen of Olympia, WA; Rhonda Thompson of Delles, OR, and Roberta Miller of Cove, OR; a son, Roy of Corvallis, OR; his mother, Verla Emery of Grants Pass, OR; one brother, Morris, also of Grants Pass; a sister, Lila Bracken of Ridgefield, WA; and three grandchildren.

Memorial Services for Quenten Lowell Emery, 57, of 1816 8th St., Des Moines, Iowa, who died Thursday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center were held at 3 p.m. on Monday at Hamilton's Funeral Home. Cause of death is unknown pending results of an autopsy. The body was cremated.

Quenten was born in Harrison to Verla Emery and the late Roy Emery. He has lived in Des Moines since 1971. He was the director of Social Services for Polk County from 1971 until his retirement in 1985. Before that, he was director of management review for the Department of Social and Health Services in the state of Washington. He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran and worked in several family businesses.

Survivors include his wife, Dena of Hermiston, OR; three daughters, Rae Ann Hansen of Olympia, WA, Rhonda Thompson of The Dalles, OR, and Roberta Miller of Cove, OR; a son Roy of Corvallis, OR; his mother, Verla D. Emery of Grants Pass, OR; a brother, Maurice of Grants Pass, OR; a sister, Lila Brackeen of Ridgefield, WA; and three grandchildren.
