Helena Blake Dies in Wheatland December 4

Mrs. Helena F. Blake, 72, daughter of a northern Goshen County pioneer, died in the Wheatland Hospital December 4.

Mrs. Blake was born in Ft. Snelling, Minn., April 26, 1882, the daughter of Charles and Minnie Wilkie Frederick. Her father was one of the soldiers stationed at Ft.Laramie in the early days and homesteaded northeast of the present town of Guernsey. One sister, Miss Ruth Frederick, still lives on the old ranch.

Mrs. Blake is survived by a son, James W. Blake, and three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Pierce of Wheatland, Mrs. Sarah Donald of Los Angeles and Mrs. Peggy Ann Rhoades of Summit, N. J.; two brothers, Henry and Charles Frederick of Guernsey, and the sister above mentioned.

A 72-year old local woman rancher and housewife, who had lived in the county 71 years, Helena F. Blake, died at a local hospital after a lengthy illness, December 2. Mrs. Blake’s ranch home is located fourteen miles northeast of Wheatland.

Funeral rites were held Monday at the Schrader chapel by the Rev. Lester Mengel, and burial was in the Wheatland cemetery. Pallbearers were William Ross, Ed Foreman, Jack Criss, Ray Blunt, Larry Daly and Paul Cundall.

Born at Ft. Snelling, Minn. April 26, 1882, Mrs. Blake was the daughter of Charles and Minnie Wilkie Frederick. Her husband, W. S. Blake, died in 1931 and she was also preceded in death by a son who passed away in 1918.

Family members who survive are a son and three daughters, James W. Blake and Mrs. Minnie Pierce of Wheatland, Mrs. Sarah Donald, Los Angeles, Calif. And Mrs. Peggy Ann Rhoades, Summit, N. J. , two brothers and a sister, Henry and Charles Frederick and Miss Ruth Frederick, all of Guernsey, and two grandchildren.
