Mrs. Nell Johnston Dies in Spearfish
Mrs. Nell Chalfant Johnston of Spearfish, S. D., aunt of Wesley Wolfe of Lusk and of Robert Wolfe of Jay Em, died early Thursday morning, Apr. 21, in the Belle Fourche, S. D. hospital.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Episcopal Church at Spearfish. Interment was in the Belle Fourche cemetery beside her husband, Will Johnston.
Although a resident of the Spearfish Valley for 40 years, the Johnstons had previously lived in this vicinity. For a short time they occupied the ranch now owned by Frank Harris north of Jay Em. She was a charter member of the Lusk Rebekah Lodge No. 12 and a member of the Episcopal Church in Lusk.
Mrs. Johnston was a cousin of James B. Griffith, Sr. of Lusk. Her sister, Mrs. Alice Wolfe, and two brothers, Dan and Hugh Chalfant, all long-time residents of northern Goshen County, preceded her in death.
She is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Ray Cundy and Mrs. Ensor of Richland, Wash. and Miss Louise Johnston of Spearfish; one son, Philip, of Rapid City, S. D.; a sister, Mrs. George Nichols of Sioux Falls, S. D., and a brother, John Chalfant of Burlington, Colo. Three grandchildren also survive.
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Wolfe and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wolfe attended the funeral.
