Homestader in Early Days Dies in Casper

Thomas J. Clark, 83, died suddenly at his home in Casper December 5. The funeral service was held December 8 at Memorial Chapel in Casper with the Rev. B. Clarke Vestal of the Winter Memorial Presbyterian Church officiating.

Mr. Clark was born September 16, 1889 at Ponca, Neb., and came to Wyoming in 1916 from Valentine, Neb. He homesteaded in the Lance Creek area in 1917. Later, he moved to Manville where he owned the hotel. He then moved to Old Lavoy and later to Edgerton where he owned and operated Clark's Auto Parts and Sales. About 1940, he opened Clark's Used Furniture business on West Yellowstone which he operated until his retirement in 1955. Clark assisted in placing people on homesteads, going many times as far as Powder River.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas A. of Billings, Mont., Robert of Casper, Harvey of Pueblo, Colo., one brother, Willie of Bassett, Neb., two sisters, Mrs. Sadie Owens of San Diego and Mrs. Annie Wallace of Valentine,11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
