James "Jim" Richard Sturman Sr.

James “Jim” Richard Sturman Sr., 77, of Upton, Wyo. passed away Oct. 12, 2010 at the Ft. Meade LTC.

A celebration of life will be 1 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Ft. Meade VA Chapel, with Chaplain Ralph Vencil officiating. A fellowship will follow at the Community Center in Upton, Wyo. Inurnment will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Lusk Cemetery, coffee to follow at the Congregational Church in Lusk, Wyo.

He was born Aug. 12, 1933 in Lusk, Wyo. to Benjamin and Margaret (DeGroot) Sturman. He attended school in Lusk and graduated from Lusk High School in 1951. He attended the Congregational Church in Lusk. Jim was met at Heavens door by his loving wife Patsy.

During high school, he worked for his uncle John Sturman on his ranch east of Lusk. Jim worked in the oil field after high school and on April 14, 1953 Jim entered the United States Army at Ft. Campbell, KY. He was discharged on April 13, 1956 from Ft. Benning, GA. During his time in the service, Jim met his wife Patricia Ann (Parrot) Sturman. They married on Oct. 22, 1955 in Birmingham, AL. They moved to Lusk for one year and then lived in Gillette.

In 1959, Jim and Patsy moved to Upton and raised three children, Vickie Lynn, James Jr., and Carol Jean. Jim worked in the oilfield for many years until health issues forced him to retire. Jim enjoyed hunting with his brother, friends, and nephews. Jim also loved fishing and spent his free time doing leather craft.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pat, and brothers George, Gerald, John and Donald, and recently met in Heaven by his sister-in-law Connie Sturman.

He is survived by his three children Vicki, James Jr. of Rawlins, Wyo., and Carol of Elko, Nev, grandchildren Michael, Katie, Daniel, Garrett, Kimberlee and Malorie, great-grandchildren, sister Marge (Jim) Grisham of Casper, brothers Walt (Suzanne) Sturman of Lusk, Harold (Linda) Sturman of Laurel, Mont., sister-in-law Janice Sturman of Lusk and numerous nieces and nephews.

Black Hills Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
