Phyllis Irene Freeman

A funeral service for Phyllis Irene Freeman, 80, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Douglas, Wyo. with Pastor Rich Cullen of the Douglas Assembly of God Church officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at the Lusk Cemetery in Lusk, Wyo.

Phyllis Freeman died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at her home of natural causes.

Phyllis was born Oct. 5, 1931 at home in Jireh, Wyoming the daughter of Fannie (Lincoln) and Emery Gaukel. She grew up and attended school at Jireh and Manville, graduating from Manville High School in 1949.

Phyllis married Chester Warren Freeman June 13, 1949 in Lusk, Wyo. She and Warren farmed for 38 years in the Keeline community. When necessary, Phyllis drove the rural school bus so that Warren could work in the field. Phyllis was involved for many years in Keeline’s 5280 Homemakers’ Club.

They welcomed three sons and three daughters into their home during their married life. Sadly, they lost their infant daughter, Linda Lorraine, in December, 1956, and their preschool son, Timothy Wayne, in November, 1957.

When Warren retired in 1987, they moved to Douglas. During the following years, she and Warren kept busy in the Douglas community and helping their children and grandchildren. They were active in the Douglas Assembly of God Church. After her husband became sick, Phyllis spent her days caring for him until his death. Her recent years were spent volunteering at the Douglas Senior Center, babysitting for the MOPS program in Douglas, and attending ladies’ Bible studies.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996, father, son, infant daughter, and grandson.

She is survived by her four children, John (Jean), Sue Perl (Marty), Nancy Solomon (Chris), and Robert (Becky), eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, her mother, Fannie Gaukel, sisters Aileen (Lloyd) Baker, Joanne (Rich) Mcelderry, brothers Kenneth (Karen) and Dan (Cheryl) Gaukel, sister-in-law Vira Haller, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

A memorial to the Douglas Assembly of God Church, P.O. Box 1033, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 or to the Douglas Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 192, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
