Sarah Jane Brooks Niobrara Pioneer Dies in Douglas

Mrs. Sarah Jane Brooks, pioneer Wyoming resident, passed away at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Cannon Home in Douglas, at the age of 89 years.

Mrs. Brooks was injured in a fall about two weeks ago and from that day on she has remained in bed and gradually failed.

Until about five months ago, Mrs. Brooks made her home with her son Frank in Douglas, and on the ranch near Manville.

Mrs. Brooks was born June 14, 1853 in England, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Noble. She came to America with her parents when quite young.

Fifty-four years ago, together with her husband, she came to Manville from Kansas. Later they moved to Douglas, where Mr. Brooks was in charge of streets and trees. Mr. Brooks preceded his wife in death in 1923.

Three children were born to the Brooks, Frank, George and Willie, all ranchers in the Manville area.

Mrs. Brooks was past matron of the Eastern Star and active in that lodge for many years.

Surviving are her three sons, and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon in Douglas at the Hofman chapel, with Rev. Brandt of the Assembly of God church in charge of the services. Burial was made in the Douglas Park cemetery.
