News received of death of Art From
Arthur From was born Nov. 27, 1907, at Shelby, Neb., to James W. and Isabel McMeekin From. He was the eldest of seven children, Bessie, James R. (Bud), Marcella, June Maxine, Richard and an infant brother. The infant brother died at birth and June Maxine and Richard died as babies.
The family moved from Shelby in 1920 to the home place three miles west of Harrison, Neb. He lived on the home place until his death Dec. 8, 1992, at the age of 85.
He attended school in Harrison through high school. Upon his graduation he enrolled at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
He and his brother James (Bud) helped on the farm, then ventured to California where Art worked for an electrical company. He and Bud then went to Idaho and worked in a saw mill for several months. Art returned home to help but Bud stayed for a time.
Art was civic minded and did much for the community and his neighbors. He served on the Board of Directors for the Sioux National Bank, was a member of the Methodist Church for over 60 years, a member of Sioux Lodge No. 227 A.M. & F.M. and a member of Sioux Chapter 319 Order of Eastern Star.
He is survived by his sisters, Bessie York and husband Otto of Torrington, Wyo., and Marcella Fitch and husband Glenn of Harrison; nephews Robert York and Philip Henry of Harrison, James York of Torrington, Edward York of Georgetown, Texas; niece Mary Bell Fegler of Torrington, 10 great-nephews and great-nieces and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
