Thomas Hawkins Dies At Home of Son; 81 Years Old

WAS PIONEER OF NEBRASKA, LIVING THERE SINCE 1871; BORN IN ENGLAND

Came to Live With Son at Youngwoman Last March; Funeral Held Here Monday


Once more the Grim Reaper has come into this section to gather his harvest this time swinging his scythe upon Thomas Hawkins of Youngwoman. Mr. Hawkins passed away at the home of his son, Wm. T. Hawkins last Saturday, February 16, 1924, at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 18 days.

The deceased was born in Outwell, England, on May 29, 1842. He emigrated to the United States March 6, 1866, settling in new Jersey and residing there for a number of years. He then established residence in Wisconsin. It was in 1871 that he moved to Plainview, Nebr., where he took up a homestead tract.

In 1881 he was united in marriage to Nilla Metta Baker. To this union three children were born, two sons and a daughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed to the great beyond February 27, 1888; and is survived by the children, Wm. T. Hawkins of Youngwoman; M.E. Hawkins of Plainview, Nebr., and Mrs. J. J. Bentley.

Mr. Hawkins came to this state in March, 1923, to make his home with his son at Youngwoman.

The body of the deceased was brot (as published) to the undertaking parlors of Austin, Elquest Slack company and funeral services were held from there Monday, February 18, Rev. F. I. Blanchard, Baptist missionary evangelist, officiating. Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery.
