Military Rites for Richard Ledford to be held

Military Rites for Richard Ledford will be held Sunday, Aug 11, 2013 at 2 p.m.

Richard F. Ledford, 64, died June 16, 2013 in Lead S.D. He was born to Harve Horace Ledford and Velma Irene (Hansen) Ledford on Nov 10, 1948, grew up in Lusk and moved to Cheyenne for the last two years of high school. Richard took care of his little sister, Glenna, while his mother worked and his father was a patient in the VA Hospital.

He served in the Army in Germany during the Vietnam era. In the Army, he was on a team that tried to create a mobile computer that would keep track of all the supplies for the Army in Europe. That computer filled an entire semi-trailer and crashed whenever it was moved. Now that information would fit on a notepad.

After being honorably discharged from the military, Richard attended the University of Wyoming and took several accounting classes. Later, he worked various construction jobs before working at the University of Wyoming from 1982 until retiring as lead mainframe operator in 2010.

On July 13, 1983, he married Pamela H Mathewson. Richard was a member of the Albany County Democrats Central Committee and charter member of the Laramie Valley Outing Club. He loved camping, fishing, and bridge. He was an avid organic gardener and an adventurous gourmet cook.

He is survived by his wife Pam Mathewson of Laramie; daughter Veronica R. Ledford (fiancé, Stephen Yuresko), of Laramie; brother David Ledford (Cindy), of Rapid City, S.D.; sisters Marcia Stroh (Larry), and Glenna Nash (Mike), of Casper. He is predeceased by his parents.

Memorials may be made to Interfaith-Good Samaritan in Laramie or charity of your choice.
