Funeral services for James Blackburn, 74, will be held at a later date.
James Blackburn a resident of Glenrock, Wyo. more recently of Lusk, Wyo. died Monday, July 29, 2013 at the Niobrara Health and Life Center in Lusk.
He was born Oct. 17, 1937 in Glenrock, the son of Harold and Florence A. (Reinke) Blackburn. He was raised in Glenrock and went to the Pleasant Valley Country School at Natural Bridge. He was married to Dolly J. Carr on Feb. 12, 1966 at the BB Brooks ranch house near Casper, Wyoming. They resided in Glenrock, where he worked on the family dairy farm and for Rissler - McMurry. He was a Glenrock City Cop where he became Chief of Police. He and Dolly operated Blackburn Sanitation from 1972 to 2006 and Lonetree Archery from 1986 to 1998. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, gambling, and their monthly trips to Deadwood.
He was survived by his sons, Jason (Becky) Blackburn and Bret Blackburn both of Lusk; grandchildren, Britney, Lexi, Dalton, Kianna, and Riley; great grandson Jaden; siblings, Georgia Monger of Casper, Wyo., Robert Blackburn of Douglas, Lucille Stock of Douglas,and Patricia Sanders of Eureka, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death his parents and wife, Dolly J. Blackburn on Oct. 2, 2010.
A memorial to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, 5705 Grant Creek, Missoula, Montana 59808 or the National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22030 would be appreciated by the family.
