Lee Starr Dies from Car Collision Injuries

Russel Lee Starr, nearly 25, of Lance Creek, died in a Lusk hospital about 8:30 p.m. Saturday from injuries he received in a head-on collision in Lance Creek about 7:55 p.m. Thursday. The 1937 Ford Starr (he) was driving hit head-on with a 1951 Ford driven by Clair McLean, 16, also of Lance Creek. Clair, son of Hugh McLean, was seriously injured and has been taken to a Casper hospital for special treatment.

The accident occurred about one-half mile east of the Argo Camp in Lance Creek. Starr's car was east bound and McLean's west bound. The Highway patrol investigated the accident and reported that the cars met in approximately the center of the pavement. It is possible that the Starr car was without lights. The lights, if any, were not found in the wreckage. However, officers have not yet been able to talk to McLean to definitely determine if the car had lights burning at the time of the accident. The car had no tail lights.

The Starr car came to rest on the south edge of the black top facing northwest and was upside down. The McLean car was in the north barrow pit on its wheels facing southwest.

The two injured men were brought into the Niobrara Memori8al hospital by the Peet Ambulance.

Russell Lee Starr lived in Lance Creek as a child. He moved to Bakersfield, Calif. when about nine years old. After graduating from high school there he served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He received his discharge in 1953 and returned to Lance Creek. He has been employed by the Fred McNeil Construction company. He is the son of Mrs. Robert Seitz of Bakersfield. Mrs. Sietz arrived in Lance Creek the day following the accident. Dale Henton of Lance Creek is Starr's uncle.

Funeral services are scheduled from the Greenlawn Mortuary in Bakersfield Saturday, July 28, at 10:00 a.m.
