Carl Dallam Dies in Alliance Aug. 17

Carl A. Dallam, 67, well known rancher in the Prairie Center community and former representative in the State Legislature, died August 17 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Alliance where he had undergone surgery.

Funeral services were held August 21 from the Colyer Funeral Home with the Rev. D. L. Morris officiating. Military services were conducted by the Torrington and Van Tassell American Legion posts. Burial was made in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.

He was born May 7, 1889 in Chicago and married Louise Lutz of Falls City, Nebr., July 21, 1920. In 1910 he homesteaded in the Prairie Center community. He was a member of the American Legion, 40 and 8, Wyoming Stock Growers Association and the Torrington Congregational Church.

Mr. Dallam served as representative in the State Legislature for three terms, 1934, 1937 and 1939. He was house majority leader in 1939. In 1941 he was appointed by Gov. Nels Smith to organize and head Wyoming's first probation office and served in this capacity for five years.

In 1947 he was selected to serve as department service officer for the American Legion. He was forced to retire from this work in 1948 after he suffered a heart attack. Mr. Dallam was appointed to fill the unexpired term of State Senator Robert Rymill, but could not accept.

He has been in ill health for a number of years. He and Mrs. Dallam moved to Torrington in 1953 after he suffered a stroke while living on their ranch.

Survivors are his wife of Torrington, one brother, Howard of Silverton, Ore., and a sister, Mrs. Dean Billman of Ardmore, S.D.
