Word has been received that Charles S. Hughes of Hat Creek, formerly of Pender, Nebr., died Sunday at Hot Springs, S. D., where he had been taken several weeks ago in the hope that his health might be benefited and his life spared to his friends. Mr. Hughes came here about five years ago from Pender where he published the Republican and was also postmaster. He took up land on the Seaman hills north of Hat Creek and went into stock raising; over a year ago he was hurt in a run-away
accident and did not seem to have ever recovered from that experience. He is survived by his widow to whom the whole community extends sympathy in her loss.
