Thos. Penfield Rites Held Here Monday

Bronchial pneumonia proved fatal to Thomas A. Penfield of Lusk last Saturday, August 29, following a short illness. The deceased was 70 years and 19 days of age.

Thomas Alfonso Penfield was born August 11, 1871 at Patterson, Madison County, Iowa, and passed away Saturday, August 29, 1941 at Lusk, Wyoming. He grew to young manhood in Iowa and was united in marriage to May Belle Wiggins on October 14, 1894 and to this union five children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife and an infant daughter.

In 1907 he moved to Nebraska where the family took up a homestead and continued to make that state their home until 1928 when he came to Wyoming. He leaves to mourn his passing one daughter, Mrs. Mary Smith of Silt, Colorado and three sons, Ozro and Melvin of Lusk and Luther of Lance Creek, Wyoming. There are 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at the Peet Mortuary Chapel Monday, September 1, 1941, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. M.H. Marshall in charge. Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. H. J. Templeton sang "Will You Miss Me," "Rock of Ages",and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied at the organ by Mrs. J. P. Watson. Casket bearers were Clair Rice, William Packard, Burton Kaper, Brent Bruch, Carl Taylor and R. J. Barnes. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.
