Memorial services were held September 17, 1997, at the Liberal Christian Church for Mary L. Burke, 87, Liberal.
She died September 13, at Lakeview Healthcare, Lamar, after a long illness.
The Rev. Darrel Phipps and the Rev. Phil Abbott officiated.
Burial was in Bruise Cemetery, Chico, California.
Memorial contributions may be made to Potter Community Church, P.O. Box 60, Potter, Kansas 66077, where her adopted grandson serves as a minister.
Miss Burke was born December 17, 1910, in Barton County to Clay L. and Gurtrude (McMahan) Burke. She graduated from Liberal High School in 1928 and attended Pittsburgh State University for two years. After living and working many years as an office manager in Lusk, Wyoming, and Chico, California, she retired to return to Liberal in 1990.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law Bud and Ruth Burke, Chicago, California; a niece Joanne Murphy of California; and a nephew William Burke of Oregon.
