Dick Armstrong Dies in Oklahoma

It was just brought to the attention of The Herald that funeral services for B. R. "Dick" Armstrong were conducted at Oklahoma City and burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. He died Nov. 8 after a lengthy illness.

Survivors include his wife Venita, a daughter, his mother and three grandchildren.

Armstrong graduated from Lusk High School in 1923. His family left shortly afterward for California, but he remained for a few years and worked in the local drugstore. He then went to Los Angeles and then to Oklahoma City. Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong were married in 1939 and most of the time was spent in Oklahoma City with the exception of a few yeas when they returned to Los Angeles.

Armstrong was manager of a ladies' shoe store for a number of years and worked as bookkeeper for other concerns. The last nine years he was employed by the State Department.

In 1975 while returning from vacation in New Orleans he had a stroke and had not been able to work since that time.

Armstrong was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and very active in the Eastern Star, where he had been a past patron, and in the White Shrine.

In 1974 Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong came to Lusk for a short visit.
B.R. (Dick) Armstrong, 71, of 823 SW 25, died Monday at Baptist Medical Center after a long illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hahn-Cook, Street & Draper Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Armstrong was an auditor for the state examiner and Inspector's office, was born in Denver and came to Oklahoma City in 1928(?) from Los Angeles. He was a member of the Capital Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Venita; a daughter, Mrs. Jody Gooding, San Antonio; a brother, Robert, Los Angeles; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Armstrong, Los Angeles, and three grandchildren.
