Emily McKelvey died Monday

The funeral for Emily McKelvey, 68, will be April 13 at the Peet Mortuary Chapel beginning at 10:30 a.m.

She died Monday at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital. The obituary will be in next week's paper.

Former county teacher Emily McKelvey, 68, dies

The funeral for Emily McKelvey, 68, was Thursday in Lusk at the Peet Mortuary Chapel. She died in the Lusk hospital April 10.

She was born Oct. 26, 1909, the daughter of Soren Hansen and Constance Dagmar Olsen in Viborg, S.D. She received her education in Viborg.

Shortly after completing two years of college at Vermillion, S.D., she came to Van Tassell and lived with an uncle. While here she taught in the local school and also met Ralph McKelvey. She and Ralph were married in November 1930. Three children would be born to the couple.

For about six years Ralph and Emily operated a small restaurant in Lusk. In 1960 she returned to college and obtained her teaching degree from Chadron State, after which she taught in the Wyoming Rural School System at Node, Indian Creek and Fairview.

Both Emily and Ralph were faithful members of the Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by one son, Joel John; her parents, one brother and one sister. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; one son, Gene Edward of Santa Monica, Calif.; one daughter, Bonnie of Portland, Ore.; and five gandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
