Memorial services for Shirley Isis Seligman Shields, 63, were Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1996, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Pine Bluffs with the Rev. Thomas Cronkleton officiating. A rosary was recited at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Burial followed at the Pine Bluffs Cemetery. She died Friday, Sept. 6, 1996, in Cheyenne, from complications from open heart surgery. Memorials are to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or the charity of the donor's choice.

She was born Jan. 12, 1933, in Albin, to Carl and Rose (Sanders) Seligman. She attended school in Albin for a short time until the death of her mother. At that time, she and her sister Crystal, moved to Pine Bluffs to live with their grandparents. She was a member of the Pine Bluffs High School graduating class of 1951 and then attended Barnes Business School in Denver. She was employed for a time with the Rural Electric Company before taking a job with the Laramie County Welfare Department in Cheyenne. She and Everett Shields were married April 7, 1956, in Pine Bluffs and had lived here since that time. She enjoyed playing cards with her pinochle club friends and Bingo. She was a member of St. Paul's Council of Catholic Women, Royal Neighbors of America and was the organizer of the local Diabetes Support Group.

She had been the social correspondent for "Keeping Tabs" for the Pine Bluffs Post about 14 years.

Survivors include her husband; children John W. of Cheyenne and Mary Anne of Pine Bluffs; sister Crystal Emme of Hutchinson, Kan.; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and an infant sister, Nellie Marie.

Schrader Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
