Bertha Waldron Dies at Age 97

Bertha Ann Waldron, the eldest of six children was born to Mr. and Mrs. Al Scribner Feb. 22, 1877, at Red Cloud, Webster County, Neb., in the dugout home of her parents. She died July 3, 1973, at her home in Crawford, at the age of 96 years.

In 1884, the family moved to western Nebraska by covered wagon and filed on a homestead near Hay Springs. She began her teaching career at the age of 14 1/2 years.

In 1896, she was married to Charles Waldron, a former driver for the Deadwood-Non Perial (Nonpareil) Stage. Eight children were born.

Shortly after they were married they lived north of Harrison where Charles was foreman of the Colonel Coffee Ranch. Later they moved to the farm they purchased north of Hay Springs where she lived until 1935 when she moved to Hay Springs.

In 1951 she moved to Crawford. Mrs. Waldron had been in excellent health until the last couple of years. The last year she had been cared for in her home by her granddaughter, Cleone.

She was preceded in death by her three sons. Among survivors are her five daughters; Nora Parks of Chadron, Wilma Krueger of Hay Springs, Nellie Fox , Oleta Hoyda and Helen Lewis all of Crawford, 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
