J. D. Vineyard

A memorial service for J.D. Vineyard, 63, was conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at the Wheatland Bible Church in Wheatland, Wyoming, with Reverend Lori Modesitt officiating and military rites accorded by the Laramie Peak Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3558.

He died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at his home near Wheatland. J.D. had been ill since 1989 when he suffered a stroke.

J.D. was born Feb. 27, 1945, in Saratoga, Wyoming, the son of Edgar Nelson and Iona Clara (Cox) Vineyard. He attended schools in Chugwater and received his GED in 1978. On October 18, 1969, J.D. married Dana Marie Burnham in Douglas, Wyoming. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the United States Army. He spent many years working on various ranches and worked ten years in law enforcement where he was an under-sheriff for five years. He loved his family, dogs, and horses. J.D. thought entertainment was a good day's work. He was an outdoorsman and, a real cowboy. He was a member of the Laramie Peak Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3558.

Survivors include his wife, Dana of Wheatland; two children, Cobby (Genia) Vineyard of Wheatland and Ardy (Keith) Hahn of Buffalo, Wyoming; a brother, Nelson (Carolyn) Vineyard; two sisters, Mary Jo (Larry) Lund of Rawlins, Wyoming and Barbara Vineyard of Virginia Beach, Virginia; three grandchildren, Copelin Vineyard of Wheatland and Tennessee and J.D. Hahn both of Buffalo; many nieces and nephews; and, his beloved dog, Belle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cobby Vineyard.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were his family and friends, Blackie Budd, Tim Ash, Dana Willadsen, Pat Cullen, Mike Johnston, Fred McGuire, and Dick Mickelson.

Memorials to Laramie Peak Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3558, 1401 - 9th Street, Wheatland, Wyoming 82201 would be appreciated by the family.

Gorman Funeral Homes - Platte Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of the arrangements.
