Funeral Notice

Funeral services for Jack Wade of Torrington will be held Friday, Dec. 2, 2011 at the Riverside Church of Christ in Torrington, Wyo. Jack passed away Nov. 28, 2011. A complete obituary will follow.

Everett McKinley "Jack" Wade, Jr. "Crossed the Great Divide" on Nov. 28, 2011, at his home in Torrington. He was 79. God has gained a great cowboy.

Jack was born in Scottsbluff, Neb., on June 13, 1932, to Lola Wade (born Lola Irene Vian Miller) and Everett McKinley Wade. He was the fifth of 10 children. Never one to remain idle, Jack began working away from home at the early age of 14. His interest in ranch work drew him to working with Bill Coy. He was later employed with the Badger and Red Cloud Ranches near Jay Em. He worked as a drill hand for Ray Drilling of Denver, Colo., and Andy Wigand of Salt Lake City, Utah, and later sheared sheep with friends Norval and Marvin Fales. He continued to work as a ranch hand and learned the art of cowboying from his mentor, Peach Shaw at the Red Cloud Ranch.

In around 1960, Jack and his wife, Ellen, started their own ranch on land which had been homesteaded by Ellen's family in the early 1900s near Prairie Center. They retired from ranching in the early 1990s, however, Jack continued to trade cattle, and drove truck for several companies including Goshen County Road and Bridge up until just a few months ago. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Ellen Carol Wade, who died on Nov. 28, 2003. They were married on April 21, 1951 in Lingle.
