Funeral service for Helen Marie Meng Freeman, 87, was conducted on April 14, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Newcomer Family Funeral Home by Dr. Bryant Badger of First Christian Church. Burial was at the Wyoming Memorial Gardens. Viewing was on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Helen passed away on April 10, 2005 at Wyoming Medical Center. She was born on March 2, 1919, in Edgemont, S.D. She was the daughter of Hans and Hazel May (Jones) Meng and attended grade school at Booster School in Niobrara County. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1938.

She married Vaughn Freeman on July 20, 1939 in Buffalo and they later divorced. Through this union they had a daughter Marie (Freeman) Cain. Helen worked for the State of Wyoming at the Children's Home in Casper and later at Popular Living Center. She was also a volunteer at the Mills Senior Center for several years.

Helen was a member of the First Christian Church. She was a Life Member and Past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge No. 13, and a member of Royal Neighbors. She enjoyed fishing and camping, crocheting and traveling.

Survivors include her grandson SSTG Lonnie L. Cain of Kaplri, Hawaii, great grandson Kyle Lake, son-in-law Clyde E. Cain and his wife Maryann, her nephew James Meng and his wife Debbie of Red Bird and their children, and numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by her daughter Marie Cain, her parents, her brother James Meng and his wife Melva.

Memorials in her honor can be made to the Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers. Memorials may be left at Newcomers Funeral Home.
