Elsie M. Packard

Elsie Packard long time area resident died at Niobrara Memorial Hospital November 10, following a sudden illness. Funeral service was held November 12 at Peet Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend Lawrence Kelly officiating.

Elsie M. Packard was born August 8, 1903, at Scottsbluff, the youngest daughter of the late Henry Clay and Eliza Catherine (Christian) Rogers. She received her education in the schools at Glen and Andrews, Nebr. On August 17, 1921 she married Robert H. Packard at Hot Springs, S.D. They were the parents of three daughters and four sons.

In 1930 the Packard family moved to Node and in 1941 moved to Lusk where they made their home until 1979, when Mr. Packard died. Mrs. Packard has made her home with her son Bill until a week before her death when she had returned to Lusk.

During her life Mrs. Packard worked several years as a practical nurse and at the Ranger Hotel and as a cook on the C&NW railroad bridge gang. She was a past member of the American War Mothers and the VFW Auxiliary 3511 at Lusk.

She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Brewer, Torrington; Rozettie Jordan, Cheyenne; and Doris Hafner of Lusk; her sons, William of Orpha; Richard, Chatsworth, Iowa; Robert, Parsons, Kans., and Donald of Torrington; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; one brother and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, one sister, four grandsons and one granddaughter.

Music for the service was by Joy Kaltenheuser who sang "Beyond The Sunset" and "In The Garden." Edna DeCastro was the organist. Active Bearers were her sons and grandsons, William, Richard, Donald, Duane, John and Mike Packard. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.
