Robert Henry Packard

Longtime Niobrara County resident, Robert Henry Packard, 79, died last Wednesday at his Lusk home.

A native of Mitchell, S.D., he was the son of William T. and Rozellie Brett Packard.

The family moved to Olympia, Wash. and then to Crawford, Neb., where Robert attended school and grew to manhood.

He married Elsie M. Rodgers in 1921 at Hot Springs.

In 1930 they moved to Node and in 1943 they came to Lusk.

Mr. Packard worked for the Chicago & Northwestern railroad for many years, retiring in 1961. He had been a section foreman at Fort Fetterman and Newell, S.D.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way.

Mr. Packard is survived by his wife, also of Lusk; four sons, William of Douglas, Richard of Chugwater, Robert of Parsons, Kans., and Donald of Torrington.; three daughters, Dorothy Brewer of Torrington, Rozettie Jordan of Cheyenne and Doris Hafner of Phoenix; a sister Rozella Rodgers of Oregon; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister, four grandsons and a granddaughter.

The Rev. Frank Bozart officiated at a Monday morning service at Peet Mortuary. Edna DeCastro was organist.

Burial followed at Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Richard, Duane, Bill, Bob, Don and Michael Packard.
