Funeral service for long-time area resident Blanche Rice was held last Saturday, Dec. 26 at Peet Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Frank Bozart officiating.

Burleigh Blanche Humphreys Rice was born September 29, 1888, and died December 22, in Houston, Texas.

She spent her youth in Reliance, S.D. and later attended Grand Island Business College in Nebraska. There she met and married Clair S. Rice in 1912. They had two daughters, Mabel Leah and Clarice and one son, Haskell. The family moved to Lance Creek to homestead in 1918 where the family grew and so did the ranch. In 1945, the Rices sold their ranch and moved to Lusk.

Clarice, their daughter, died in 1950, and the Rices raise their granddaughter, Reda McLean Butler. For years, they spent their winters in California and their summers in Wyoming. Since Mr. Rice's death in 1962, Mrs. Rice has lived in Lusk and in Houston with her daughter Mabel Leah Drews.

Mrs. Rice is survived by a sister June Humphreys Cusick of Sacramento, Calif., her daughter, Mabel, eight grandchildren, Darlene Autery, Houston, Gary Drews Kessler, Deer Park, Texas, Karen Drews Olmsted, Valentine, Nebr., Reda McClain Butler, Ranchester, Clair McLean, Lusk, Gurney McLean, Casper, Barry Rice, Tallahasse, Fla. And Beryl Rice , Fernandina Beach, Fla. and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her husband Clair, daughter Clarice and son Haskell.

Edna DeCastro was organist for the service and Mark Lohr sang "God Be With You till We Meet Again," and "The Old Rugged Cross." Active pallbearers were Randall Butler, Gurney McLean, Clair McLean, Stan McLean, Melvin Lambert and Everette Brooks.

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.
