Ethel Schutt

A memorial service for Ethel Schutt, 77, of Lusk, was held March 8, 2003, at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, with Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Inurnment followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Ethel Schutt died March 4, 2003, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

Ethel May Porter Schutt was born March 27, 1925, to George W. and Ada M. Hitch Porter in Beaver Crossing, Neb. Three months after her birth they moved to Hemingford, Neb., where her father operated a cream station for many years. They later moved to Harrison, Neb., were she graduated from Sioux County High School in 1942.

She married Carl H. Schutt on May 28, 1942. They worked on several ranches in the Harrison area, later moving to Keeline, Wyo., to help Carl's parents on their ranch. Ethel helped with the gardening, housework and chores. Three years later they moved to Douglas. Ethel and Carl moved a few more times before locating in Manville in the early 1950s, where they raised their five children.

Ethel cooked in many restaurants and cafes. She was a member of the Manville Homemakers for over 30 years. She was involved in 4-H as a cooking leader. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and plastic canvas needlework.

Ethel is survived by her children: Ron and Judy Schutt of Magma, Utah; Bonnie and Larry Orr of Glendo, Wyo.; Lorraine and Lloyd Williams of Wheatland, Wyo.; Duane and Kathy Schutt of Grand Island, Neb.; and Jerry and Sue Schutt of Lusk; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; parents, George Porter and Ada Hitch Appleyard Porter Gurnea; stepfather Eugene Gurnea; a sister, Leona Appleyard Stull; brothers, Ralph Porter, Lloyd and Leslie Appleyard; a great-grandson and a great-granddaughter.
