Violet M. Smith

Services for Violet M. Smith, 96, were held Dec. 14, 1999. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Violet Smith died Dec. 9, 1999, at the Niobrara County Hospital. She was born May 8, 1903, in Merrill, Iowa, to Lee and Clara (Sloan) Hurt.

She married Everett Rickle Sept. 17, 1921. She married Albert M. Smith Feb. 27, 1928 in Lusk, Wyo. Violet was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Royal Neighbors, War Mothers and VFW Auxiliary during her lifetime. She was particularly proud of her family; her collection photos of them covered the walls of her home. Her grandchildren remember with love her ability to make cinnamon rolls with no recipe.

Survivors include sons; John of North Shore, Calif., Delbert and Charles (Chuck) of Lusk; James W. (Whitey) of Los Lunas, N.M.; Frank of Overland Park, Kans.; Douglas of Hay Springs, Neb.; daughters; Josephine Kelley of Milton - Freewater, Ore.; Clarabelle Davis of Lusk; and Mary Shiley of Custer, S.D.; one brother Clarence Hurt of Kelso, Wash.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and by Everett Rickle in 1927; Albert Smith in 1956, three brothers, three sisters, two sons, two grandsons, two great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials to the Niobrara Senior Center or the Niobrara Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
