Wm. J. Whelan Dies At Home of Son in Lusk

William J. Whelan, whose home was near Keeline, passed away in Lusk at 8:30 p.m., February 20th, at the home of his son, County Assessor C. A. Whelan. Mr. Whelan had been in poor health, suffering from uraemic coma for some time, and about two weeks ago was brought to Lusk so that medical aid might be more available. He was being cared for at his son's home.

Funeral services, arrangements for which were in charge of the Midwest Funeral Parlors, were held at Keeline on Wednesday, February 22, with Rev. D. Powell of Wheatland officiating, interment being made in the Jireh cemetery.

William J. Whelan was born on October 11, 1851, near Hawsville, Ky. He lived there until he reached the age of 4 years. His father passing away at this time, he with his mother moved to Cannelton, Ind., where he made his home until 21 years of age, when he removed to Buffalowville, Ind., where in January, 1877, he married Margaret Wardelmann and moved to Posey county, Ind., where they made their home until April, 1909, when they came to Wyoming and homesteaded near Keeline. Mr. Whelan was one of the original members of Jireh colony.

Mr. Whelan was a good husband and father, a fine citizen and a staunch friend. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.

Besides his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lloyd R. Reed, of Lyman, Wyo., and three sons, Fred H. of New Harmony, Ind.; William J. Jr., of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Arthur of Lusk.
