Albert Julius Beardsley

Albert Julius Beardsley, a rancher in the Lance Creek area for 26 years, died at the Weston County Memorial Hospital in Newcastle October 28 at the age of 77.

He was born in Arnold, Neb., July 11, 1903, the son of Frederick and Abbie Wilcher Beardsley. He was raised in the Arnold area and married Veva Troyer, a neighbor, in Mildale, Neb., August 1, 1923. Beardsley worked as a barber in Anselmo, Neb. Until the family moved to Dull Center. In the late 1930"s they moved to the Morrisey area and in 1941, moved to a ranch north of Lance Creek.

Beardsley retired from the Lance Creek ranch in 1967 and moved to Glendo where he lived until 1970. His wife Veva died in 1968 and in 1973 he married Mabel Phifer in Hot Springs, S. D. He and Mabel had made their home in Newcastle during the past several years. Beardsley enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid amateur taxidermist.

Funeral service was last Thursday at the Community Church in Glendo with Bryan Clark officiating. Burial was in Horseshoe Cemetery in Glendo. The Albert Beardsley memorial has been established for a new park in Glendo. The memorial fund is in care of the Schrader-Prell Funeral Home in Wheatland.

Beardsley is survived by his wife Mabel of Newcastle, two daughters, Denamae Kirkpatrick, Newcastle and Judy Kenast, Glendo, a son, Dee Beardsley, Casper; two step-sons, Dean Helms, Newcastle and Thad Helms, Garland, Tex.; one brother Daniel, Broken Bow, Neb., and one sister Florence Johnston of Grand Junction, Colo.
