Later he bought a place of his own near Jay Em which he operated until about three years ago when he retired and moved to Torrington.

Burial services were conducted by the Odd Fellows Lodge and interment was at the Valley View Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha, a brother, John Chalfant of Burlington, Colo., and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Johnston of Spearfish, S.D., and Mrs. Hattie Nichols of Sioux Falls, S.D.
