Former resident dies in Newcastle

Niobrara County homesteader Charlotte E. Beardsley died early this month at the Weston County Manor Nursing Home in Newcastle.

A graveside service was held at Arnold Cemetery with the Rev. T.J. Willard officiating. McColley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Miss Beardsley was born Oct. 7, 1896, at Arnold, Neb., to Frederick and Abbie Beardsley. She homesteaded in Niobrara
County in 1929.

After proving her land. she worked as a nurse's aide and midwife for many years in the rural areas of Niobrara and Weston counties and in Nebraska. She had resided in Newcastle for the last ten years. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Newcastle.

Survivors include two brothers, Albert Beardsley of Newcastle, formerly a rancher of the Lance Creek area, and Dan Beardsley of Broken Bow, Neb.; a sister, Florence Johnston of Grand Junction, also a former Lance Creek resident; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
