Faye N. Baker

Funeral services for Faye N. Baker, age 99, will be held May 7, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Pier Funeral Home in Lusk with Reverend Delbert Dick of Wheatland officiating. Interment will be in the Lusk Cemetery. Faye passed away April 25, 2008, at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, Nebr.

She was born Sept. 25, 1908, in Newcastle, Nebr. to Felix and Mae (Hopkins) Nern. She graduated from high school in Gordon, Nebr., and went to business college in Quincy, Ill.

She was married to Harry Wolfe in 1926. He died in a farming accident. In 1931 she married Powder River Thompson, and they later divorced. She and Harry Baker were wed Dec. 18, 1945 at the Kitchen Place where they ranched. They moved to the Crofutt Ranch in 1955, where they remained until moving to Lusk after retirement. She and Harry moved to Ponderosa Villa in Crawford in 2006.

Faye was a member of the Roadrunner Homemakers Club and of the Alliance Church in Lance Creek. She was a talented woman who baked and decorated cakes, upholstered furniture, and was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She was a very Christian lady who was dedicated to her faith. After losing her eyesight, she continued to cook, crochet afghans, clean her own home and do her own laundry until she was 96 years of age.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Wolfe and Harry Baker; her parents; sisters Raye Slater, Grace Skanadore, and LaVerne Gwynn; brother Lee Meyers; and daughter Billie Wolfe.

She is survived by two daughters: Shirlee Crofutt of Thermopolis, and Jean Zerbe of Lusk; son Dick Baker of Lusk; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to the Niobrara Senior Center, PO Box 928, Lusk, WY 82225. Lunch at the Senior Center was a favorite activity for both Harry and Faye while they were in Lusk.

Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
