Funeral services for Ray Magness, 66, of Torrington were held Wednesday, May 28 at the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington. Rev. Robert Sewell officiated with burial following in the Valley View Cemetery.

Military graveside services were conducted by Travis Snow Post No. 5 of the American Legion and the Wyoming National Guard.

Magness died suddenly at Torrington Community Hospital on Friday, May 23, 1986. He was born Feb. 24, 1920 at Chicago. IL and lived with the Tom York family near Lance Creek while growing up.

Graduating from high school at Lost Springs, WY, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Following his military service, he returned to Chicago where he worked for Joyce Beverages for 33 years.

On Oct. 7, 1961, Magness married Shirley Wahl at Chicago. He retired in 1985 and in April 1986 the couple moved to Torrington.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of Torrington; a son, William L. Magness of Round Lake Beach, IL; a daughter, Cheryl D. Alden of Bal Harbour, FL; his mother, Bernice Donovan of Chicago; and three grandchildren.

The Colyer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
