It is with a feeling of sorrow and regret that we are enabled to chronicle the death of one of our oldest pioneers and highly esteemed citizens - John E. Hargraves - who passed from this life last Firday night at 10:15 oclock. Mr. Hargraves came to Lusk July 3 to take part with us in celebrating the 4th. While in town he was taken seriously ill with cramps in the stomach. Medical aid was called, but to no avail, his suffering continuing until Friday evening when he awoke and asked for help, saying that he was certain that he was going to die. He then went into convulsions and in less than 10 minutes he was dead. No man had more friends than Mr. Hargraves - everybody liked the big-hearted, whole-souled fellow - and his death caused many a heartache in this community. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Cleveland of the Congregational church Monday afternoon and the body laid to rest in the Lusk cemetery.
