Mrs. Chalfant Dies in Colo.

Mrs. Bertha Chalfant, 83, a long-time resident of this vicinity, died July 10, in the hospital at Wray, Colo. For the past several years she had made her home with her sister, Mrs. Melford Andrus at Haigler, Neb.

Bertha May Chalfant was born April 1, 1879 in Salt Lake City, the daughter of Marion and Lucassa Jackson Austin.

She came to Wyoming about 1910 and lived in Lusk and vicinity for several years. She married Daniel Chalfant in Omaha, in 1916 and they lived on their ranch northwest of Jay Em until 1946. Two years later they settled in Torrington, where Mr. Chalfant died. Later, Mrs. Chalfant moved to Haigler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister and a brother.

Surviving are: one brother, Charles, of McCook, Neb.: two sisters, Mrs. Carl Macy of McCook and Mrs. Andrus; and several nieces and nephews.
