Loretta JoAnn Soderberg

Funeral services for Loretta JoAnn Soderberg, 67, were held Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at the Niobrara County Fairgrounds Auditorium. She passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper, Wyo.

Loretta was born May 27, 1942, to Cortas and Laura Wisseman in Fresno, Calif. The family moved to Federal, Wyo., and eventually to the Fort Collins, Colo. area.

Loretta went to school in Laporte, Colo. through her junior year in high school. Her senior year she attended Western Mennonite School in Salem, Oregon. She later took some part time courses at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado from time to time.

She married Paul Soderberg March 15, 1961, in Fort Collins, Colorado. Chris Soderberg was born on Dec. 7, 1964. They resided in the Fort Collins area; Jackson, Wyo., and the Lusk, Wyo. area.

Loretta loved the ranching life, and lived it to the fullest. The ranch on Rawhide was her passion. She always worked hard at whatever the task at hand, and was willing to tackle anything. She was very artistic: painting, sculpting, weaving, silversmithing, leather work, crocheting, and many more endeavors - she mastered them all.

She was involved in the Jay Em women's club and Friends of the Library.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cortas and Laura Wisseman.

Loretta is survived by husband Paul Soderberg of Lusk, son Chris Soderberg (Julie) of Daniel, Wyoming; grandson Billy Soderberg of Newcastle, Wyo.; sister Ruth Embleton (Dick) of Greenwood, Delaware; brothers Ben Wisseman (Ruth) of Albany, Ore., and Dave Wisseman (Karen) of Jay Em, Wyo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Niobrara County Library, PO Box 335, Lusk, WY 82225.

Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
