Levi S. Shaffer

Services for Levi S. Shaffer, 84 of Mills will be 2 pm Tuesday at Bustard Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Stroud of Mountain View Baptist Church and Pastor Dale Fitzsimmons of Faith Bible Chapel officiating. Mr. Shaffer died Dec. 9, 1988, at Wyoming Medical Center. Born Oct 30, 1904, in Scottsdale, Pa., he was the son of Amos and Ella Shaffer. At the age of 10, he and his family moved to Manville, Wyo., where his father was employed on a ranch. Later as a young man he worked on the construction of the road between Cody and Old Faithful in Yellowstone National Park. He then worked for the Burlington Railroad and helped build the railway in the Wind River Canyon. Later, he worked on various ranches in the Douglas area and in 1930, he moved to Lusk. On Aug., 28, 1933, he married Cecelia Kinney in Lusk. In 1942, they moved to Casper and to Mills in 1943. Mr. Shaffer worked for Fred Goodstein in the salvage business, later working for Manning and Martin, which in now WOTCO. For a period of seven to eight years he was a lineman for Northern Utilities. He then was a custodian for Montgomery Wards and later worked as a custodian for the Wagon Wheel Roller Rink in Mills. Survivors include his widow of Mills; two daughters, Mrs. Benjamin Wolfe (Elnora) and Joan Whittaker, both of Casper: three sons, Donald Shaffer, LeRoy Shaffer, and William Shaffer, all of Mills; 24 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, one grandson, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. Flowers or memorials to the Blue Envelope Health Fund would be equally appreciated by the family. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
