Wilson Graham

(Date Unknown - May 27, 1945)

The Lusk Herald
May 31, 1945

A head-on collision of two cars cost the life of Wilson Graham early Sunday morning. The accident occurred about 16 miles south of Newcastle, on Highway 85, as the cars rounded a curve.

The occupants of the Graham car were Mr. and Mrs. Graham, their 12-year-old daugher, Theoria, Mrs. Violet Boatright and Charles Hicks. The driver of the other car was Bud Black. The name of the companion was not learned, but both escaped with minor injuries.

Mr. Graham's neck was broken by the impact and death was almost instantaneous. Mrs. Graham was severely hurt and the others suffered cuts and bruises and all were confined to the Newcastle hospital.

The Graham party was enroute to the Black Hills, intending to visit Mount Rushmore, and it is understood that all the occupants of the car were asleep except Mrs. Graham, who was doing the driving.

Mr. Graham has been employed with the D.M. Spafford Pipeline Contract company, and Mr. Spafford went over to Newcastle on Monday, taking a sister of Mrs. Graham's and her husband, as they had arrived on the train that day.

Returning to Lusk, Mr. Spafford brought Mrs. Boatright and Theoria Graham back with him. The former was taken to the Lusk Hospital and Mrs. Z. B. Crinklaw took care of the little girl, as the Grahams had been living in one of Crinklaw apartments.

The remains of the deceased were shipped from Newcastle to his former home at Bloomfield, New Mexico.
