Elma Barrett Crawford

A Keeline-area homesteader, Elma Barrett Crawford, died last Wednesday at the state hospital in Evanston.

Born Dec. 7, 1872, Mrs. Crawford was 107.

A native of Stewartsville, Ind., Mrs. Crawford and her husband, Melvin, settled one mile north of Keeline in 1908. They lived in the Keeline community for 43 years.

In 1952, they sold their farm and moved to Lusk. Mr. Crawford died in 1957, but Mrs. Crawford continued to live in Lusk until recent years when she moved to Evanston.

The Crawfords were married July 29, 1891, at Poseyville, Ind. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in Lusk in 1955.

Mrs. Crawford is survived by one adopted son, Robert, of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two adopted children, Joe and Louise, and a brother A. J. Barrett, of Danville, Ind.

The Rev. Frank Bozart officiated at a Monday afternoon service at Peet Mortuary.

The organist was Minerva Watson and the soloist was Douglas Ellis. They performed "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."

Burial followed at Lusk Cemetery.

Pallbearers were G. L. Pfeifer, Floyd Bartos, Lloyd Coleman, Lee Thomas, Larry Eddy and Warren Freeman.
